Our Mini Café and Activity Space at Rockspring Community Centre provides an excellent opportunity for delivering skills based training, offering positive, purposeful and meaningful activities in a community setting, encouraging independent living skills and confidence building in a safe and supportive environment.
The Café provides a broad range of opportunities from food preparation to customer services and enables our members to develop the following skills:
- Communication
- Customer service
- Food preparation
- Food hygiene
- Healthy eating
- Instruction/activity
- Weights and measuring
- Money handling
- Cleaning/washing
- Shopping
- Making jams, pickles, soaps etc
We also offer opportunities for our handmade products to be sold beyond the café with occasional market stalls and participation in many of the town’s festivals.
Weekly shopping trips into Ludlow provide the opportunity for members to gain valuable independent living skills. We offer supported work experience opportunities within the local community –with recent successful placements at White Stuff and Isla Bikes.
One of our ambitions is to develop Working Together as an exemplar for food and environmental sustainability. We have developed links with the Ludlow Food Network and have taken on an allotment in the Rockspring Community Garden where we had hoped this year to produce our own fruit, vegetables and herbs for use in the cafe and for selling at Ludlow market – along-side our jams and chutneys.
We are committed to recycling and composting and the use of reusable containers to reduce packaging and food waste. These are all things our members have expressed an interest in and feel passionately about.
We participate each year in the Ludlow Food Festival – presenting a range of volunteering opportunities for our members and supporters.
