Rockspring Community Lunches
Working Together is really pleased to be working with Ludlow Baptist Church to re-launch the Rockspring Community Lunches.
The Thursday lunches had previously been organised by the Furniture Scheme, but the Pandemic put a stop to everything at the centre in 2020.
Now Covid restrictions are beginning to relax we have been working together to get the lunches restarted. Our friends at the Baptist Church are taking the lead on organising, with food cooked by our members at Working Together.
Simon, Baptist Minister, says the community lunches are important to the local community, bringing together people who are looking for some company and to get out of the house. Local people who might need that extra bit of help and encouragement to get out are very welcome at the community lunch, to make new friends and get a wholesome, healthy meal.
We welcome anyone who may be feeling lonely, isolated, bereaved or just wanting to meet new people to come along to the community lunch and enjoy great food, friendship and fun.
Simon said, Baptist church members are committed to hosting the lunch every week, offering friendship, support and, on occasions, a shoulder to cry on.
Working Together is very pleased to be able to be part of the community lunches and members are enjoying cooking the food each Thursday.
Comments from the local community have been encouraging:
“I wouldn’t miss the community lunch for the world! It’s far better for me to come out than be stuck in the house all week.”
Simon welcomes Cllr Viv Parry to one of the community lunches.
Viv came to say hello to everyone and Ben and Tom work hard preparing
the Community Lunch.
Meet Sarah GG – our new Activities Leader
We’re pleased to announce that Sarah Gurr Gearing has joined the Working Together team as our Activities Leader.
Sarah will be involved with our daytime activities at Rockspring and will also run our fortnightly Diversity Club.
Sarah brings lots of experience of working with people with learning difficulties & disabilities and will be a great addition to the Working Together team.
“Hello everyone, my name is Sarah GG and I am delighted to be joining the team here at Working Together as Activities Leader.
I have lived in the lovely town of Ludlow for 20 years and have been within the care sector during this
time, supporting young people with challenging needs and behaviours.
I very much enjoy the outdoors and nature, I like tending to plants and encouraging wildlife into my little garden.
Before living in Ludlow I lived in Hong Kong where I worked with a team very much like here at Rockspring called ‘Springboard’.
We all worked together enjoying fun activities and learning new skills while enjoying each other’s company.
I am looking forward to meeting everyone at Working Together, getting to know you all and getting involved in fun activities, – and especially tasting the yummy food being produced by many of you.
I have already been made welcome and really appreciate the kind help I have received from many of you so far.
Let’s have some fun!”
Sarah GG

Supper Club Night…
Youth Club members had lots of fun cooking food at their recent supper club night.. Yum!
Chloe’s Big Film Premiere Night…
We love following what our incredibly talented members get up to away from Working Together and recently we went to a dazzling red carpet film night in Telford.
Arty Party presented a selection of short films including the premier of Secret Lives, an enticing and surreal trilogy of films adapted from original stories by best-selling fantasy author Jeff Vandermeer. One of the films,
The Secret Life of Astrid North starred our very own Chloe Shepherd. Well done Chloe!
Arty Party creates award winning films starring actors with learning disabilities which are shared at film festivals world-wide.
All of the films shown that night were brilliant. Hopefully, at some point in the future we will be able to hold a film show at Rockspring for all our members to be able to see the Secret Lives films.
SARAH’S RUN…
We were excited to learn last week that Sarah is running in the 2022 Edinburgh. This is her story…
“In late 2019, a friend asked if I would like to run in the next year’s Edinburgh Marathon to raise money for Working Together, Ludlow.
I said ‘yes’. The training went well, I fell in love with running and soon I was able to manage a half marathon. Then Covid. And you all know what happened next.
The marathon, along with so much else, was postponed and postponed again.
But now, with two more years’ running under my belt, my accommodation booked, support team (husband, Ben) organised, I can’t wait to do Edinburgh Marathon 2020 on Sunday 29th May 2022!”
