Working Together is a charity based in Ludlow offering support to individuals with learning difficulties and learning disabilities and their families across south Shropshire and north Herefordshire.
Founded in 2002, we offer a wide range of opportunities for adults and young people age 11+ and promote the positive role people with learning difficulties can play in the local community
Our aims are to foster a welcoming, loving and supporting environment and to:
- promote happiness, good health & wellbeing
- encourage a strong sense of belonging
- develop a stimulating and creative work and social environment
- encourage all to develop their own skills and talents
- do what we can as well as we can
- create an environment where all are valued, appreciated and included
- encourage the inclusion of people with learning disabilities in all aspects of community life.
Throughout Working Together all our activities are person-centred.
We encourage and support independence and confidence in a safe and enjoyable environment and enable our members to feel fulfilled and achieve the best they can.
What we do…
We provide skills-based opportunities for people with learning difficulties and disabilities that are based within the local community.
Our opportunities for daytime provision are based around the Working Together mini café and activity space at the Rockspring Community Centre, Ludlow.
The Café and associated food delivery service provides a basis for developing social skills, literacy and numeracy and skills to support independent and healthy living.
Through our work experience we offer support for food hygiene and cookery training and provide a route into further volunteering opportunities and/or part time work with local partners and supporters.
In addition to our food related activities we offer crafts, gardening, healthy living and our weekly Writers Club and Sewing Bee sessions.
Over and above our daytime offer we host weekly evening activities including Youth Club (age 11-18), Diversity (age 18+) and Sports Club and have regular social events for members and their families.
Youth Club and Diversity focus on providing space for members to socialise and feel part of the Working Together family and include art sessions, discos, yoga, quizzes, trips to the cinema, bowling, days out -plus occasional outings to the pub (for the over 18s).
Sports Club provides a place for members to socialise and interact whilst focusing on healthy activities. In addition to physical activity this includes trips to the local sports clubs including the tennis club, football club and croquet club. All our activities are aimed at encouraging social integration and friendships, the development of social skills and independentliving skills and to help prevent loneliness and social isolation.
We also encourage members and their families to develop their own mutual support networks and offer help, advice and signposting to ease some of the challenges and pressures that can be faced on a daily basis.
